Miss Van (Juxtapoz cover #90) and Victor Castillo will open their dual exhibit, Canto Negro y Brujerias, at Merry Karnowsky Gallery Berlin, on Saturday July 26, 2008. In Canto Negro y Brujerias, the paintings of Barcelona-based artists Miss Van (France) and Victor Castillo (Chile) unfold their unique, yet harmonious, iconographies in visually intersecting ideas. From their personal perspectives, these artists approach subjects like seduction, desire, enchantment, and the game of infantile cruelty. The title of the exhibition attempts to unite these proposals and at the same time, alludes to Spanish culture, superstition and witchcraft as basic context, and dark invocations of common ghosts.
