Jul 18 2008 by Simon Walton, Evening Gazette ROBOCOP Ray Mallon, who left Cleveland Police in a storm of controversy, could make a shock return to police leadership as part of a Government shake-up. New Home Office proposals could see elected mayors automatically become “Crime and Policing Representatives”, who will oversee their local forces. Should the Government green paper get the go-ahead, Mr Mallon, Mayor of Middlesbrough, could become the police representative for the town, replacing some of the existing members of Cleveland Police Authority. Today Mr Mallon welcomed the proposals, saying elected mayors should have more influence over policing.
