EVESHAM'S tax office in Bengeworth is one of thirteen in the West Midlands which will close as part of a major shake-up to streamline the HM Revenue and Customs service. Staff were told in a series of meetings across the region that offices will close by Spring 2010. A total of 50 offices will be closed across the country in a bid to slash billions of pounds from the department's budget. Unions warned hundreds of jobs were at risk by HMRC said it planned to make the changes without making any compulsory redundancies. Treasury minister Jane Kennedy said the move, which followed an eight-week consultation, was designed to improve value for money.
