Sudan, Chad restore diplomatic ties

Last Modified: 18 Jul 2008 Source: PA News Sudan's president has agreed to resume diplomatic ties with Chad, one month after severing them following an unprecedented rebel attack near the Sudanese capital. President Omar al-Bashir accepted the turnaround after an appeal by Senegal's President Abdoulaye Wade, who has been trying to broker peace between the two sides. Sudan accused neighbouring Chad of supporting Darfur-based rebels who launched an attack near Khartoum in May that was the closest they had ever come to hitting the seat of Sudan's government.
