UN slams deadly suicide bombing in Kabul

UNITED NATIONS - The Security Council on Monday joined UN chief Ban Ki-moon in strongly condemning the suicide bombing that targeted the Indian embassy in Kabul and killed 41 people. Vietnam's ambassador to the UN Le Luong Minh, who chairs the Council this month, slammed the bombing in a statement issued on behalf of the 15-member body. Council members ‘condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist suicide attack’ in Kabul and ‘underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terroprism to justice.’ They reiterated their concern ‘at the threats posed by the Taleban, Al Qaeda, illegal armed groups, criminals and those involved in the illicit narcotics production and trafficking.’ Ban, who is currently attending the G8 summit of major industrialized nations in the...
