High wind and heavy rain brought down trees and power lines as thunderstorms swept along the Ohio River through several counties tonight. “We had pretty widespread reports of damaging winds,” said John Denman, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. Damage was reported in Jefferson, Bullitt, Meade and Hancock counties in Kentucky and Perry County in Indiana, Denman said. Winds averaged about 55 to 65 miles per hour, but gusts of up to 70 miles per hour were reported in Lewisport, Ky., he said. Emergency crews in Louisville responded to reports of downed power lines and trees throughout the city.
