Special Government Meeting To Discuss the North

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert (Kadima) will call a special Cabinet meeting to discuss the situation on Israel’s northern border. Security sources have advised that Olmert call a meeting to discuss Israeli policy and options, given Hizbullah’s increasingly strong position and violation of various agreements, including major points of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 Lebanon War. During a tour of the northern border yesterday, Foregn Minister Tzipi Livni (Kadima) reportedly told visiting Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini that “there is a unique opportunity to disarm Hizbullah,” if Resolution 1701 is implemented fully.
