War Hero Reunited With Troops

Published: July 8, 2008 U.S. Army Maj. David Underwood was released Monday from Brooke Army Medical Center to be reunited with troops returning from Iraq. Underwood served as commander in Iraq for 28 months until he lost his arm in an explosion and was taken to BAMC for treatment. “The explosion hit me … severing my wrist right off the bat,” said Underwood. Part of Underwood’s leg was also wounded in the blast, but doctors were able to save the limb after a number of surgeries.
