Now that the heat of summer has arrived to Central Arkansas, the city of Little Rock has opened a cooling center to give residents a break from the heat. The cooling center is a partnership between the Little Rock Salvation Army, City of Little Rock, Feed The Hungry, Arkansas Homeless Coalition, and the Mayors' Commission on Homelessness. "We want to communicate to the folks that need assistance that we're here every day, seven days a week because we don't want folks to be confused or wonder whether there is assistance or not," explains Major Ann Johnson. The cooling center is located at the Salvation Army Little Rock Area Command at 1111 West Markham Street, which is at the corner of Markham and Cross Streets in downtown Little Rock.
