AHN - Anglican Bishop Defects To Catholic Church Over Female Bishops

Vittorio Hernandez - AHN News Writer London, England (AHN) - The decision of the Church of England to allow women bishops has spurred the Anglican Bishop of Ebbsfleet to defect to the Roman Catholic Church. The Rt. Rev. Andrew Burnham said he asked Pope Benedict XVI and English Catholic bishops to show magnanimous gestures that would permit the traditionalist Anglicans to defect en masse to the Catholic faith. Burnham has spoken in Rome with Cardinal Levada, the head of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and Cardinal Kasper, the head of ecumenism of Vatican. With Burnham during his visit to the Holy See was Rt. Rev. Keith Newton, the Bishop of Richborough, who is expected to follow Burnham's footsteps.
