Japan`s UN bid sensitive and complex: Ban Ki-Moon!

Sapporo (Japan) July 08: UN secretary general Ban Ki-Moon said on Tuesday he understood Japan's ambition to be a permanent member of the UN Security Council but talks on reform were sensitive. Ban, a former South Korean Foreign Minister, stressed the need for reform of the world body to better reflect the changing global economic, political and security landscape. "There is almost unanimous opinion among member states that this Security Council somehow should be expanded and reformed to be able to reflect the wishes of many countries," he told an audience at Hokkaido University. Ban said he "fully understands" Japan's desire to gain a permanent place on the council.
