Tea exports up nearly 2 pc in May

NEW DELHI: The country's tea exports have increased by nearly two per cent to 10.83 million kg in May this year, compared to 9.29 million kg in the same month last year, according to a senior official in the Tea Board. In value terms, the exports have rose to Rs 111.95 crore, from Rs 90.36 crore in the corresponding period last year. "The export have gone up due to the rising demand from overseas," the Tea Board official said, adding that 23 countries import tea from India. The total exports for the January-May period went up by over nine per cent at Rs 651.03 crore, compared to Rs 597.02 crore in the same period last year.
