Tesla Motors said Tuesday it has hired former Chrysler executive Mike Donoughe as its executive vice president of vehicle engineering and manufacturing. The move is designed to help the California-based electric-car maker take the next step in becoming a serious contender in the auto industry. Darryl Siry, a marketing executive with the company, said Tesla will rely on Mr. Donoughe's expertise as it readies a $60,000 electric sedan -- dubbed Model S -- for a late 2010 debut. Tesla started building $109,000 electric roadsters earlier this year, and hopes to significantly ramp up production of those models in coming months to meet relatively brisk demand.
