Canon has a new entry level dSLR, possibly with your name on it. The EOS Rebel XS, aka the 1000D, will ship in August for $699. To be fair, $700 for an SLR, especially if you pretend to be “into” photography like Peter and Devin and I, is a decent price. The Rebel XS has a 10.1-megapixel CMOS sensor and a 2.5-inch LCD. The step up from this, the Rebel XSi, has a 12.2-megapixel sensor and 3.0-inch LCD. Don’t forget Live View! So now you ask yourself, is $200 worth a half inch of LCD and a slightly larger sensor? Keep in mind, Mr. Rothman at Gizmodo points out that the Rebel XS is the first in the Rebel line that can take an unlimited number (read: till you fill up your SD card) of large, fine JPEGs.
