Report: NYC bus service lagging

Bus service in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens fell behind increasing ridership during the last decade, according to the Straphangers Campaign. July 08. 2008 10:57AM Elisabeth Butler Cordova New York City's bus service has not kept up with the increase in ridership over the past decade, according to a report released Tuesday by the New York Public Interest Research Group’s Straphangers Campaign. The group analyzed data from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and NYC Transit. For the city bus system overall, average weekday ridership increased 22%, from 2 million to 2.5 million, between 1997 and 2007. Weekday service only grew by 15% during that period, according to the report. Bus service lagged increased ridership in three boroughs: Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens.
