Flawed, grown-up guys are the summer's box-office superheroes

Will Smith stars in 'Hancock.' As much as Hollywood covets youth, it also knows an important demographic truth: Don't send a boy to do a man's action movie. This summer proves it. There are iron-men smackdowns, Batman versus the Joker, the Hulk facing an Abomination, Will Smith against everybody. But the real clash is between generations. Smith's "Hancock," in which the superstar known for likable good guys plays an ill-tempered hero with adult problems, was the smash of the holiday weekend. The action-comedy's $107 million box-office take over five days was Smith's best opening ever, no small feat.
