Only two major venues remain to be completed for Olympics Jeff Lee, Vancouver Sun Published:Â Tuesday, July 08, 2008 More than 45 years ago, Canada's dream of creating a national Olympic hockey team made up of amateurs was born in a new arena at the University of B.C. under the tutelage of legendary coach Father David Bauer. On Monday, the renewed and expanded arena complex, including the arena where Bauer coached the 1964 Olympic team to a fourth-place finish, officially reopened after undergoing a $47.8-million upgrade to make it an official venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The new Thunderbird Winter Sports Centre will host the men's sledge hockey games for the Paralympics, and most of the women's and men's hockey games for the Olympics.
