Emma Caldwell murder case collapses after 11 months

Jul 8 2008 By Paul O'Hare THE case against four Turkish men arrested in connection with the murder of prostitute Emma Caldwell has collapsed. The Crown Office had 12 months from the date of the arrests, in August last year, to set a trial date. But last night, it emerged that prosecutors have been unable to do so within the deadline. It is a massive blow to Emma's parents, William and Margaret, who have waited more than three years for their day in court. But, crucially, the suspects could still face trial for the murder at a later date. The Crown Office said they have yet to make a final decision on the case. Strathclyde Police declined to comment Emma, 27, was last seen alive on April 4, 2005, near the hostel where she lived in Govanhill, Glasgow.
