Euro 2008: Year of the attack

PAUL CARBRAY, The Gazette Published:Â 14 minutes ago Hangovers from the 2008 European Championship, perhaps the finest soccer tournament in the last 20 years: Goal tally: Amazingly enough, Spain's 1-0 win over Germany in the final brought the number of goals in the tournament to 77, exactly the same as the 2004 tournament when Greece won. But this was an infinitely better tournament, with most teams opting for attack (Greece being a notable exception) and a series of chances enlivening every game.
