Labour by-election candidate Margaret Curran sounds TV challenge to SNP rival

Jul 8 2008 By Magnus Gardham LABOUR by-election candidate Margaret Curran has issued a TV challenge to SNP rival John Mason. Baillieston MSP Curran was expected to be selected to fight the Glasgow East seat for Labour last night. Yesterday, she threw down the gauntlet to the Nats by challenging city councillor Mason to a live telly debate. She said: "Councillor Mason has said in the past he is in politics for one reason - to break up the UK. "Well, I'm in politics to stand up for the east end of Glasgow. "I'm challenging Councillor Mason to a public TV debate any time, any place." Curran plans to remain MSP for Baillieston. She faces claims she would be a "part-time MP" but insists she can represent the area at both Holyrood and Westminster, as her Baillieston seat lies in the Glasgow East constituency.
