Mokbel's sister-in-law to plead guilty

THE jailed sister-in-law of accused double murderer Tony Mokbel is expected to plead guilty to perjury charges. Renate Lisa Mokbel, 37, appeared via videolink in the Victorian County Court for a hearing today. Her solicitor Zarah Garde-Wilson indicated Renate Mokbel would plead guilty to two counts of perjury. She was sent to prison last year for failing to provide a $1 million surety for Tony Mokbel, who skipped the country. Renate Mokbel, who is married to Tony's brother Milad, pledged a $1 million house in suburban Melbourne as surety. The charges she is expected to plead guilty to include falsely stating that she was the owner of the property in Brunswick and lying about her assets at a Supreme Court hearing. Chief Judge Michael Rozenes set an arraignment for July 17, with a plea hearing scheduled for September 29. Share... [read full story]
