Ex-ministers join Lib Dem race

Former Scottish ministers Tavish Scott and Ross Finnie have announced they will stand in the contest to choose the next Scottish Liberal Democrat leader. Mr Scott, MSP for Shetland, said he wanted to lead the party at a "vital time" in Scottish politics. Mr Finnie, the former environment minister, said he put his name forward after gaining a "very good measure of support" from colleagues. Nicol Stephen quit as leader last week, citing family reasons for his decision. West Aberdeenshire and Kincardine MSP Mike Rumbles, who stood in the last Scottish Lib Dem leadership contest, was the first to throw his hat in the ring, announcing his candidacy last week.
