OVER 50 members of Chard and District Swimming Club took part in the inaugural Chard and Clevedon Open Meet sponsored by Allweather & Tubbs, held at Hutton Moor Pool, Weston-super-Mare. Excellent swimming from the Chard squad gained them six club records, 26 gold medals, the Top Club Trophy and Jamie Pullinger (9yrs) and Daniel Andrews (13yrs) won the Top Boy trophies for their age groups. Club records went to Holly Lawrence (18yrs) with 2-17.72 mins in the 200 Freestyle and 2-35.28 mins in the 200 Individual Medley, both Open records. The 200 Medley record had been held by Gail Farrant for 14 years. Daniel Walker (11yrs) improved his 12 & under record in the 200 Breaststroke to 3-09.36 mins, while Luke Van Den Barselaar (12yrs) also improved his 12 & under 200 Backstroke record to 2-46.48 mins.
