Published at 12:03pm on 6 July 2008 The worst of this weekend's wild weather is over and roads are being reopened. But the Desert Road is still closed due to heavy snow, and there are warnings other highways could close later on Sunday because of forecast icy conditions. State Highway Two over the Rimutaka Hills is now open again, after being closed all morning. A bus was wedged across the road because of icy conditions, but it has now been cleared. There has also been a serious crash due to black ice near Rotorua. In the South Island, contractors have been working to reopen all the major highways, although chains are advised on the alpine passes.
