When I arrived in England, the first place I wanted to see was Silverstone. All of the grands prix had been televised live in Australia and I had seen the British Grand Prix many times. It was one of those events and places that struck a chord in the mind of an enthusiast; all that motor racing history going way back. I think it was the second or third day after landing at Heathrow that I travelled to Silverstone, just to see the track. Little did I know then that this place would become such an important part in my life. Silverstone was to be the first track in Europe where I drove a racing car - a Formula Ford. I went on to win races at Silverstone in Formula Ford, claim pole position in Formula 3, win in Formula 3000 as well as sharing a winning Mercedes-Benz in world sports cars.
