Double world champion sprinter Tyson Gay of the United States has been injured and did not finish his quarterfinal heat at the U.S. Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon. Gay was leading the men's 200-meters heat, but as he entered the turn, Gay went airborne, fell to the track and was writhing in pain. The sprinter had to be carted off the track and did not qualify for the Olympics in the event. Gay, the men's 100-meters and 200-meters world champion last year in Osaka, Japan, had previously qualified for Beijing in the 100-meters. He ran the fastest time ever, 9.68 seconds in the 100, but it did not count as a world record because the tailwind was too high.
