In politics, expenses are used to top-up an otherwise frankly ridiculous salary. This is as true of MPs as their staff. An MPs salary is not enough to attract people of the right calibre to the commons so there needs to be a few perks to make life easier for the brats. If you work in a large organisation many of the people at the top will earn more than an MP. However, this argument falls down when you consider the fact that a CEO doesn't usually get a whole second home with John Lewis furnishings included as a company perk. According to the list below, Labour MPs seem to like their expenses allowance most of all. Perhaps all that concern about poverty works up a greedy appetite in the evening.
