She finished the day with 6,017 points, far ahead of second place finisher, Susan Coltman, who accumulated 5,797 points. Despite the discomfort, Zelinka pushed through the competition receiving 643 points for an “average” mark of 5.30m on the long jump, a conservative 41.30m javelin throw (692 points) and a victorious time of 2 minutes, 11.66 seconds in the 800m. “I had to play it safe,” she said smiling. “I felt it in the warm-up and didn’t want to risk anything, so I had cut short my approach to eight steps.
