A £100M children's hospital will be named The Great North Children's Hospital, it was announced last night. The 245-bed centre will be built in the grounds of the Royal Victoria Infirmary, in Newcastle, and will open by 2010. The result of a public vote to choose its name was announced by Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan last night. The alternatives were Northern Lights Children's Hospital and The Greenhouse Children's Hospital. The hospital will feature a "penthouse" for teenage cancer patients, a 50-seat cinema and a play area. It will bring together services offered at three sites in Newcastle and cater for youngsters from across the North-East.
