Knight-EL The writer perhaps like most Americans grew-up a bit naive about how this system functioned and believed that there was no other form of government or political system equated to the United States system of Democracy. We learned in our middle school civics course how the United States Democracy functioned, as far as the three branches of government—Executive, Legislative and Judicial branch, which we were taught gave a balance to power and a separation of powers. Thus, in theory the Executive branch (commander-in-chief), Legislative (Congress) and judicial (US Courts) all worked in concert to ensure the tenets of democracy are being fulfilled within our nation.
