We have a deal, SP tells Congress

NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and his key aide Amar Singh sealed a "deal" with the Congress leadership on Friday, agreeing to support the India-US nuclear pact and moving swiftly to replace the Left as the Manmohan Singh government's chief bulwark. TOI was the first to report, in its edition of June 22, that a Congress-SP deal was in the making when it said, "SP set to back N-deal, alliance with Cong on cards". The revolving door act —- which saw Left's brinkmanship over the deal being stared down by the Congress and SP now stepping into the charmed circle of power —- was played out with the Samajwadis calling on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, as TOI in its edition on Thursday had said they would.
