Israel’s security officials have spent many years and billions of dollars to bolster the country’s defences against attacks from militant Palestinians. This week, however, they were offered a fresh reminder that not even the highest walls and most diligent checks can stop an attacker who lives in their midst. Hussam Duwiyat, the man who killed three Israelis with a bulldozer during Wednesday’s rampage in central Jerusalem, was a resident of the city.
