SIU: Cops Justified In Shooting Suspected Bank Robber Armed With Fake Bomb

He didn't have any choice but to fire. That's the conclusion form the Special Investigations Unit, which has decided that a Toronto police officer did nothing wrong when he shot and killed a suspected bank robber during a standoff on March 25th. It was a miserable Tuesday afternoon, in the middle of a snowstorm, when police rushed to the Royal Bank branch at Markham and Sheppard for a report of a hold-up in progress. But this wasn't to be any ordinary call - the suspect told bank employees he was armed with a remote-controlled bomb and threatened to set if off if they didn't hand over the cash. Police arrived before he could make his getaway and an inevitable confrontation ensued.
