It was close, but not close enough for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue’s control team as they narrowly missed out on a national award. At last night’s Council Worker of the Year gala dinner in Bournemouth, the team were pipped to the post by the staff of Karelia Court in Hull, who won the Flood Response Award for 2008. The award was part of a new category this year, to recognise the efforts of the emergency crews involved in last year’s devastating floods. People had been voting all over the country since May 1st by text message or by visiting the LGA Television website. Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue and Lincolnshire County Council rallied behind the team for two months, but it was not quite enough to win on the night.
