4 Jul 2008, 2022 hrs IST, Saibal Dasgupta ,TNN BEIJING: Four Communist Party members and government officials, including a police chief, have been sacked after more than 30,000 people staged a protest on June 28 over the rape and death of a teenager. This is a rare incident wherein officials have been directly shamed and punished after mass demonstrations. The authorities have replaced Shen Guirong, head of organisation department of the party in Weng'an. Luo Laiping, commissioner of the Public Security Bureau or the police department, has also been replaced. The officials lost their jobs due to “severe malfeasance” in dealing with the complaints of the girl’s parents.
