Furious farmers' threaten legal battle over badger cull

Furious farmers' leaders have threatened a legal battle with the Government over its apparent refusal to order a badger cull. The National Farmers' Union (NFU) said it was taking advice from senior counsel and may ask the courts for a ruling. NFU President Peter Kendall said the decision - which has not been confirmed - would devastate farmers and their families and communities which had been ravaged by TB. He accused the government of abdicating its responsibility on TB and said the decision made future co-operation on animal diseases untenable. "A negative decision on badger culling would condemn not only tens of thousands more cattle to death, but also thousands of badgers in areas currently free of TB.
