Agence France-Presse WASHINGTON - Jesse Helms, an iconic figure among hardline US conservatives who served five terms as US senator for North Carolina, died Friday at the age of 86, a spokesman said. John Dodd, president of the Jesse Helms Center Foundation, announced that the senator had died, but did not release the cause of death. Our site takes a somewhat unbalanced view of the good Senator, and the coincidence of of the 4th of July passing. Yours is decidedly more charitable. Thanks for adding your comment to the blogging universe.

The only thing Helms stood for was race-baiting and a segregated America. Billy Graham's is understandable since it comes from someone who called the Jews responsible for all the evils of America. Two worse Christians have never enjoyed more prominence than these old bigots.
