Follow up a 2p U-turn with a review of fuel tax

Jul 4 2008 by Staff Reporter, Western Mail T’S time Gordon Brown and his team stopped their dance of the seven veils over the fuel duty and made it clear that the 2p rise pencilled in for October will not go ahead. Mr Brown was at it again yesterday, dropping a heavy hint that the rise will be postponed. That hint follows several similar suggestions from Chancellor Alistair Darling and others. The Prime Minister told MPs yesterday that “I think you will find that in most years since 2000 that the duty has actually been frozen”. Well, yes, but the history lesson isn’t exactly helpful for those of us struggling to put petrol in the tank.
