"People are just starting to realize that the Rays have talent," said Leandro, before the Pelicans' 5-2 loss Thursday night against the Wichita Wingnuts before a season-high crowd of 3,689 at Pelican Park. Leandro has first-hand knowledge of the rising Rays. He was drafted in the 24th round by Tampa Bay in 2004 and played three years in the team's farm system. "They have an excellent minor league system and staff. Their success, really, is no big surprise," he said. Pelicans pitcher John Webb, who pitched in the major leagues for the Rays in 2004 and 2005, is enjoying watching the turnaround of his former team.
