UN chief urges SKorea to do more for international community

By: THE ASSOCIATED PRESS SEOUL, South Korea - UN chief Ban Ki-moon called on South Korea to contribute more foreign aid and peacekeepers abroad, saying Friday his homeland owes the international community for its help rebuilding from the Korean War. "My friends, Korea is not doing what it must. Personally, I'm ashamed as secretary general," Ban said during a speech before hundreds of lawmakers, diplomats and others at parliament. Ban said Seoul ranks at "the dead bottom" among members of the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development grouping of rich nations in providing funds for developing nations. "This is not befitting a great country like Korea," he said. "The Republic of Korea was saved by concerted action through the United Nations in the 1950s during the Korean War.
