Film reviews: Kung Fu Panda and My Winnipeg

In Kung Fu Panda, the family film of the summer, Jack Black is perfectly cast as the voice of a shambling, pot-bellied panda, who is transformed into a martial arts hero to defend his village. By Sukhdev Sandhu Kung Fu Panda PG cert, 92 min Kung Fu Panda. Say the name and say it again: Kung Fu Panda! Funny, direct and so very, very right. How can any film live up to such a title? Pretty well, actually. Directors Jack Stevenson and Mark Osborne have got themselves a simple, easy-to-understand story, a talented team of animators and visual-effects maestros, and a starry, till-ringing cast of voice actors, all of whom combine to create one of the less noisy but more effective films for the whole family this summer.
