Robert Mugisa, a trader at Nakasero Market, said the high diesel prices had made transport expensive. A litre of diesel costs sh2,580. Cargo trucks use diesel. “There has been a change in seasons and the weather pattern in most food-producing places. We are receiving less beans, maize, groundnuts, sweet potatoes, potatoes and fruits, yet we expected plenty.” He said the supply of food to neighbouring countries like Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania and DR Congo had also contributed to the high prices.
