Abramovich resigns as regional governor

Roman Abramovich will have more time to dedicate to Chelsea after resigning as regional governor in Russia. The Kremlin on Thursday confirmed Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has accepted Abramovich's resignation as governor of the Chukotka Autonomous District, an area in Russia's Far East district on the shores of the Beijing Sea. Abramovich was elected governor of the sparsely populated region in 2000 and has spent over US dollars one billion to help develop the area.
