MoD confirms aircraft carrier deal

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed the creation of two new 65,000-tonne aircraft carriers. The two vessels, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, will cost a total of £3 billion. And construction of the carriers will take place in shipyards at Govan in Glasgow and Rosyth in Fife as well as Barrow in Furness and Portsmouth. The two ships will become the biggest aircraft carriers in the UK when built, each measuring 280m in length with the capacity to hold up to 40 planes.
