Toshack’s Wales team failed to reach the Euro finals, but the influence of the Welsh boss on the tournament shone bright in Vienna on Sunday night when Casillas lifted the trophy following Spain’s 1-0 win over Germany. Toshack, left, groomed a then teenage Casillas for the top by handing him a shock Real Madrid debut in a game away to Atletico Bilbao back in 1999. Senior Bernabeu board figures wanted Toshack to instead pick either veteran German goalkeeper Bodo Ilgner or Argentina No1 Albano Bizarri.
