Bush asks for help, abroad and at home, in sending aid to Africa

Amid signs that his quest for more aid to Africa is in danger of unraveling, President George W. Bush called Wednesday for Congress to renew his global AIDS initiative and urged other nations to live up to their own promises to fight poverty and disease on the continent. "We need people who not only make promises, but write checks, for the sake of human rights and human dignity, and for the sake of peace," Bush said in the White House Rose Garden. "Accountability is really important when it comes to our work on the continent of Africa."
