The Milwaukee County Board gets it just about right: The new ethics reform package isn’t ideal, but it’s a vast and belated improvement over the current code. From the Journal Sentinel Posted: July 2, 2008 Milwaukee County supervisors have approved a badly needed reform of the county ethics code, and while it’s not as sweeping as it should be, it’s a dramatic improvement. Many of the changes are intended to wisely streamline the complaint system and encourage settlements as opposed to adversarial and expensive ethics prosecutions. Unfortunately, the County Board scuttled a recommendation from its Judiciary, Safety and General Services Committee that would have given the district attorney's office, rather than the county Ethics Board, first crack at reviewing ethics complaints against county officials.
