Area officials concerned about fireworks

AUSTIN, TEXAS (KXAN)--Williamson County officials released a statement early Wednesday regarding the use of fireworks. According to officials, the severe drought is raising concern over the potential for brushfires that could be hard to control. "With an abundant fuel source and our drought conditions, we are very concerned about fireworks igniting the dry vegetation and starting fires over the three-day holiday weekend," said John Sneed, director of emergency services for Williamson County. In a similar move, the Austin Fire Department issued a reminder on Monday that fireworks are illegal within the city limits of Austin and that with the record heat and drought, fireworks pose an additional fire danger within the area.
