Officials still unsure where oil spill came from Shay Randle • grandle@theadvertiser.com • July 1, 2008 The Environmental Protection Agency has been called to handle an oil spill that happened at the Port of Iberia on Sunday night. The agency along with the Department of Environmental Quality are expected to be cleaning the spill at the port on South Lewis Street on New Iberia until Wednesday, according to the port's Executive Director Roy Pontiff. Pontiff said EPA is unsure of how many gallons were actually spilled, but it is estimated to have been a little less than 100 gallons. "They are on site cleaning it up," Pontiff said. "Most of the oil has been cleaned up or has dissipated already." He said EPA is still unsure of where the oil came from, but an investigation continues.
