Windsor stuns Mattoon with 11-4 rout to take Firecracker opener

By JG/T-C Staff sports@jg-tc.com MATTOON -- Windsor-Neoga jumped on Mattoon Post 88’s Junior American Legion team with six hits in the first inning and needed just six innings to claim an 11-4 win in the opening game for both at the Firecracker Classic Monday. Torey Leasher’s two-out double in the top of the sixth scored two runs and Ryne Floyd went the distance for Windsor, which faces Danville Blue at Eastern Illinois today at 1:30 p.m. It met Paris in the late game Monday. Mattoon also faces Danville Blue at 4 p.m. today then meets Paris at 6:15. Both games are at Grimes Field. Mattoon trailed just 5-4 before Windsor scored two runs in the fifth then took advantage of five straight walks or hit batsmen while scoring four more in the sixth.
